A good number of balance changes were made in the new update including nerfs to characters like Joker and some nice buffs both big and small for almost half of the cast. For example, shield sizes for most of the game's roster have been universally increased.
While most of these characters have simply seen adjustments to their shields, notes have been listed for Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Dark Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Captain Falcon, Bowser, Ice Climbers, Sheik, Zelda, Doctor Mario, Pichu, Falco, Young Link, Ganondorf, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch, Meta Knight, Pit, Dark Pit, Zero Suit Samus, Snake, Squirtle, Charizard, Diddy Kong, Sonic, King Dedede, Olimar, Lucario, Toon Link, Wolf, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina & Luma, Mii Brawler, Mii Swordfighter, Palutena, Pac-Man, Bowser Jr., Duck Hunt, Ryu, Ken, Cloud, Corrin, Bayonetta, Ridley, King K. Rool, Incineroar, Piranha Plant, and Joker.
Notably, Ryu and Ken from the Street Fighter series have been gifted with the ability to perform special cancels from their down smash attacks. To compensate for this, the shield damage these attacks deal have been lessened.
Characters that are often regarded as being top tier have seen a few nerfs. Joker, Palutena, and Zero Suit Samus look to be overall a little weaker in version 7.0.0
The challengers that were buffed beyond the shield changes are Incineroar, Cloud, Ryu, Ken, Samus, Dark Samus, Duck Hunt, Mii Brawler, Toon Link, Young Link, Dr. Mario, Zelda, Sheik, and Captain Falcon.
In addition to Byleth being added to the game, Mii costumes have been added featuring characters from Cuphead, Assassin's Creed, Mega Man X, Mega Man Battle Network, and Rabbids. These cost $0.75 each.
